Trekroner area

Roskilde municipality developed in the 90s ecological visions and requirements for Trekroner, a large city area north-west of the Roskilde University (RUC). An overall plan of action was developed for the Trekroner area in 2000 local plan frameworkThe district will, when completely developed accommodate 5000 people and is designed to accommodate creative environments, jobs, cohabitations, mixed housing types and nature integrated solutions. In particular, cohesive urban development, architectural variety, open common areas, varied settlements for different ways of living have been thought of.

The plan document states that sustainable construction is in focus in order to realize the area as an ecological-creative neighborhood. There have indeed been built a number of varied architectural experimental buildings and on three building plots, the municipality has set out distinctive sustainability requirements. Since 2003 the municipality has offered large building plots in the area for the development of cohabitations with common houses, with the aim to attract creative people to a socially and architecturally appealing environment.
